EXPLORING QUATERNARY GEOLOGY ALONG BIG PINES HIGHWAY

San Andreas Fault: Exploring Quaternary Geology Along the Big Pines Highway, Wrightwood, CA

2025 Annual Field Trip - September 26-28, 2025!
SAN ANDREAS FAULT: EXPLORING QUATERNARY GEOLOGY ALONG BIG PINES HIGHWAY

This year's trip takes us exploring the San Andreas Fault within the Transverse Ranges in the San Gabriel Mountains. The trip takes place September 26 to 28, 2025 (Fri, Sat, Sun). We will be staying two nights at The Lions Camp at Teresita Pines located about 6 miles northwest of downtown Wrightwood. The trip is planned for half day Friday and full days Saturday and Sunday. The trip focuses on geological stops along the San Andreas Fault from northwest of Wrightwood to Valymero along Big Pines Highway which are included in SDAG's 2025 Field Trip Guidebook San Andreas Fault: Exploring Quaternary Geology along Big Pines Highway, Wrightwood, CA. The field trip will be led by Dr. Miles Kenney who completed his dissertation in this area and will explore over a dozen scenic stops revealing the interrelationship between late Quaternary time-transgressive sedimentation of the Victorville Fan, and related uplift, folding, and faulting of underlying bedrock. Dr. Monte Marshall will also provide a historical perspective of the scientific understanding of the San Andreas Fault in the 120 years since it caused the terribly destructive 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.

Our reserved lodging includes cabins with bunkbeds, bathrooms, and showers. There are plenty of beds in the cabins but if attendees prefer to sleep in their own tent or an RV, there is a camping area with a large bathhouse and limited space/access for a couple RV's. There are no RV hook ups. Please let me know if you're planning to sleep in a tent or wish to bring an RV. Accommodations outside of Lions Camp at Teresita Pines are not included in the registration cost and must be reserved independently (Airbnb's, Motels/Hotels, etc.).

The registration form on page 3 can be paid by credit, cash or check at an SDAG meeting; or you can print page 3 and see instructions to mail your form with a check. Paid reservations must be received no later than Sept 5th, 2025. The trip is limited to the first 50 paid.
